5 Tips to a Healthy Summer Hair Care Routine

Summer is coming!

And what do we all want in the summertime? (Besides to look great in our bathing suits, have fun with our kiddos and take lots of vacations!) Healthy hair without a lot of fuss!

Here are 5 super easy tips you can implement TODAY to kick start your hair on its healthy summer journey.

  1. Let’s talk about UV protection! How many times have you had a sunburnt part? Ugh, isn’t it just the worst?! Well, before you do out in the sun next time, try the part line spray by Banana Boat Hair & Scalp Defense Sunscreen Spray. (Some of these products can be greasy though, so try to use it sparingly.) Pro Tip: You can even spray it on your fingertips and apply it instead of spraying it directly onto your hair!

  2. We’ve all heard this before, but you should absolutely be wetting you hair before going into the salt water or the pool. For extra protection, throw a leave in conditioner in your swim bag and you can load up (or load up on regular conditioner at home first) before you get in. If it’s already in your bag, you’ll have an automatic reminder to put it on! That will definitely help block the chlorine from being completely soaked into your hair and drying it out.

  3. One of the BEST summer time hair care tips if you are big into swimming is using a swimmer’s shampoo. It’s especially great for the kiddos! Chlorine and salt water can be super damaging and drying. They strip our hair’s natural oils and make our hair really dry and brittle. Malibu C and TriSwim are two great brands to check out. You can use them on a daily basis to help keep the chlorine from turning you green. Yikes!

  4. Shampooing less often is a great way to keep your hair healthy during the summer. You will definitely want to load up on the conditioner, though or incorporate a mask into your routine at least once a week. If there’s any time to incorporate a mask into your routine to combat dryness, it’s NOW!

  5. Finally, hats and ponytails! The best and most fun way to have great healthy hair is to style it less often by throwing a hat on or throwing it up in a pony. Pro Tip: make sure you are switching up your ponytail spot so you don’t experience breakage and damage from putting it in the same spot every time!

Wrap it up…

I want you to choose just ONE of these easy tips to commit to doing FOR THE ENTIRE SUMMER! If you are able to do more, great! Pick the one that will be the easiest to add into your lifestyle and run with it. Your hair will be thanking you all summer long.
